NEW OFFICIALS

The ODMHA Officiating Program is always seeking new officials.  The process usually starts in the offseason, but can vary from May-September depending on where you live.  Here are some steps you should take to earn your stripes:

1. Decide if officiating really is for you.  Officiating is fun, but it isn’t for everyone.  Are you ready for the challenge?  Do you know what costs are involved?  Are you ready to make the time commitment?

2. Determine which district you live in and want to officiate in and contact the local Referee-In-Chief to be sure that they are accepting new officials.  You won’t be able to proceed with registration for a certification clinic if you haven’t been accepted by the local Referee-In-Chief.

3. Register for a certification clinic.  There are fees associated with this step.

4. Once you have attended a clinic, contact the local Referee-In-Chief again so that they know you have obtained your certification. They will be able to put you in contact with the game assignor in your area.

5. Look around for the proper officiating gear.  Your Referee-In-Chief can provide hints where to shop. You might also contact existing officials in your area to obtain some quality second hand equipment.
